Ron's Story: A Personal Journey - From Inspiration to Action
"In 2006 while I was serving on the BC Children's Hospital's Board of Governors, my sons and I visited the Oncology ward. We left together inspired to do something for the kids and collectively as a family. We decided that we would grow our hair, shave our heads and raise funds to support CMN, which we did on stage at our RE/MAX Western Canada Conference in Feb of 2009.
When the event took place, several colleagues and friends spontaneously joined us in getting shaved. I had never had particularly long hair before that, but I liked it! More recently in the fall of 2019, I decided I wanted to grow my hair long again! It wasn't with the intention of shaving it this time, but over time friends kept asking, "when are you going to shave it Ron?"
Go BIG or Go Home!
Inspired by good friends, RE/MAX colleagues and fellow CMN supporters Bruce Johnson and Leo Bruneau, I had an idea. To quote our co-founder Dave Liniger, "One log makes a lousy fire!" Together we can make a difference in kids' health. Let's have some fun and raise a bunch of money for CMN!
We are inviting our community of RE/MAX colleagues, staff, family and friends to please join us in Las Vegas at R4 on Tuesday, March 26th after the RE/MAX CMN Auction to either get shaved or donate to support those who do in honour of the 12 million kids treated by Children's Miracle Network Hospitals each year.
Our first shave event will follow the R4 CMN Auction on Tuesday, March 26th, 2024 and will take place about a 12-15 minute walk down the hall at the Galleria in the Luxor.
Subsequent Shave Events will continue at additional dates/times/locations as determined by additional participants.
We hope to eventually over time to have 400 participant shavees raise individually a minimum of $2500 each for cumulative funds raised exceeding $1,000,000 for CMN.
