Best Parks in Victoria

The public parks in the city of Victoria, BC, offer diverse natural beauty and recreational activities for residents and visitors alike. From the stunning vistas and rich history of Beacon Hill Park to the natural spaces in Trafalgar Park, there's something for everyone in Victoria's public spaces.

Discover what each park offers regarding activities and attractions while gaining insight into Victoria's best neighbourhoods, which are often located nearby. By exploring these green spaces in-depth, you'll better understand why they are cherished by locals and worth checking out for anyone visiting or moving to Victoria.

Cadboro-Gyro Park

Located in the beautiful District of Saanich, this playground offers an exciting and inclusive play experience for children of all abilities. With its unique features, like a giant octopus, Cadboro-Gyro Park has become a popular destination for families in Greater Victoria seeking outdoor fun. Another fun feature of this park is its zipline, which allows kids to speed from one end of the playground to the other.

The park is also right next to a beach on Cadboro Bay, so visitors can enjoy a stroll on the sand and the water views. Dogs are allowed here as long as they're on a leash.

Beacon Hill Park

Visit Beacon Hill Park in Victoria, BC

Located just east of Highway 1 in Victoria, Beacon Hill Park is a favourite among locals. It fits plenty in its 700,000+ square metres of land, from sports fields to walking paths to playgrounds. Those looking to enjoy some competition will enjoy the baseball diamond, tennis courts, and other sports areas. Meanwhile, residents looking for a quiet stroll can walk through the park's gardens and enjoy the scenery. For children, the park offers two playgrounds and two spray parks. Both playgrounds feature swings and slides and other fun features to climb on.

One of the unique parts of Beacon Hill Park is Cameron Bandshell, also known as the Stage in the Park. It's an outdoor performance venue that can seat over 500 people and is known for hosting concerts and other events during the summer. Non-profit organizations are welcome to book it.

MacDonald Park & James Bay Toddler Park

The James Bay neighbourhood is home to several parks, including MacDonald Park. This park is perfect for outdoor sports lovers, offering space for baseball, rugby, and soccer across just over three hectares. It's also right next to the James Bay Community School Centre, which has plenty of recreational programs for residents to enjoy.

Just outside McDonald Park is the completely fenced-in James Bay Toddler Park. With sandboxes alongside swing sets plus numerous other enjoyable pieces scattered throughout this delightful spot, it's an excellent park for the little ones.

Trafalgar Park

Visit Trafalgar Park in Victoria, BC

Trafalgar Park is a beautiful public park in the Oak Bay neighbourhood of Victoria. This park is a hidden gem, offering visitors a peaceful escape from bustling city life. The park covers an area of about 1.5 hectares and features scenic waterfront and mountain views.

One of the most notable features of Trafalgar Park is its natural and undeveloped character. It's primarily a rocky area with grass, so anyone looking to hike its trails should be prepared with shoes built for rugged terrain. Despite its rural character, the park offers a range of amenities to visitors, including picnic tables and benches.

The park's waterfront area is another highlight, with stunning views of the ocean and nearby islands. Trafalgar Park also offers access to a small pebble beach for those who want to get even closer to the water.

Topaz Park

Located in the Hillside-Quadra neighbourhood, Topaz Park is the third largest park in the city. It offers numerous sports fields, a dog park, a playground, and fitness equipment like an elliptical and parallel bars. A 3,000-square-metre skate park and a 6,000-square-metre bike park offer a different option for recreation and feature areas for visitors of all experience levels.

Along with its year-round amenities, Topaz Park also hosts festivals and sports tournaments throughout the year. The city is also always looking to better the space based on resident feedback—a ten-year improvement plan was adopted in 2018 to help guide these changes.
