The Neal Estate Team Supports Our Community

Mircale LogoWe are proud supporters of CMN (Children’s Miracle Network) donating a portion of our personal earnings from every sale to BC Children's Hospital.

As a MIRACLE OFFICE our real estate agents have donated more than $100,000 to the BC Children's Hospital since 2005.

Each year since 2000 hundreds of children and families join us, the Easter Bunny and Sunny Bear for our Annual Easter Egg Hunt supporting BC Children's Hospital. We give away more than 20,000 chocolates each year, have a great time resulting in hundreds of happy, smiling faces and raise thousands of dollars every year to help make sick kids better.

2019 Discover Your Potential Bursary Awarded

My name is Sequilla. I have been attending Discovery School since the seventh grade. Some of the activities I love to do when I am not at school are dancing, singing, and watching musicals. That's right, I am a Thespian. I have had the privilege of performing on the McPherson stage two times through Kaleidoscope Theatre Company. I have faced a lot of adversity in my life so far. When I was 2 years old, I got sick, to the point where I had to be hospitalized. I was in ICU for 3 days, and my life was in jeopardy. I had major brain swelling at this time and they were not sure that I would survive without major brain damage. Luckily, for me, I did. But, life from that point on was changed dramatically. I was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes. Because of the major brain swelling when I was diagnosed, I also received multiple disabilities including ADHD, DCD, Clinic Anxiety, Sensory Processing Disorder to touch and sound, Accelerated Growth Disorder as well as major Learning Disabilities in Math and English.

A change I would love to see in the world is a cure/education for Type One Diabetes. Everyone knows about cancer but I always get weird looks when people see my pump or CGM. I am educating people on Type One Diabetes nationally. In January, I was on a public transit bus and experienced a sudden episode of low blood sugar. When I sat down on the bus, I proceeded to attempt to eat something. The bus driver saw what I was doing, and refused to let me eat on the bus. I tried my best to explain that I was a Type One Diabetic and that I had to eat to treat my condition, but he still refused to let me eat, and refused to acknowledge that my condition needed treating immediately. Since this incident, I have been interviewed by CTV, CFAX, Times Colonist and multiple other papers promoting awareness of Diabetes. I have also been fundraising for the JDRF since I was three, I have raised thousands of dollars for this organization. I have done this by organizing loonie drives door-to-door pledge sheets and guessing games. “Nobody else is going to put it right for me, nobody but me is going to change my story.” Matilda the Musical.

If I were lucky enough to receive this scholarship for post-secondary education, I would be able to go to post-secondary with some financial relief and not have to choose between education and my medical expenses. This is not something that any person should have to go through; a choice between education and maintaining lifesaving medical equipment / health. Diabetes is a pricey condition to have to live and I would be very disappointed if I could not attend post-secondary education because a chronic illness sucked up all of my funding.

The Neal Estate Team's Discover Your Potential Bursary was awarded at UVIC on June 23, 2018 to Quinlan Jones of Victoria's Discovery School

Grade 12 students from Victoria’s Discovery School are being offered an exclusive opportunity to apply for post-secondary education funding from local real estate company. The Neal Estate Team, which has supported over 60 charitable organizations and community initiatives in 20+ years of business, announces the launch of the Discover Your Potential Bursary.

Ron Neal, founder of the Neal Estate Team, believes that our next generation possesses the potential to change our world for the better, and an investment in young people is an investment in our community. Ron’s eldest son Cameron attended Discovery School, an independent Christian school that specializes in educational strategies for children with learning challenges. Cameron Neal says he was able to thrive in the Discovery School environment because his teachers “were empowered to guide us, as human beings, rather than telling [us] 'right' from “wrong.’

Sherri Ko, principal of Discovery School, is honoured to partner with the Neal Estate Team to launch this bursary program. According to Ms. Ko, “The Discover Your Potential Bursary Program aligns perfectly with Discovery School’s mission to provide individualized education programs that balance challenge with success, build self-confidence and self-esteem. We strive to help develop our students as whole beings, which means being able to support them beyond their time at this school.” Ms. Ko feels that the Neal Estate Team’s has been exemplary in their support for organizations in the community, and is delighted that Discovery School is now one such recipient.

The DYP Bursary will be awarded to one Grade 12 student who will be initiating his or her post-secondary education in the next 12 months following graduation from Discovery School. The successful candidate is one who is already actively contributing to their community, and “possesses a discernible vision to contribute in meaningful ways to the world we live in”.

To qualify to apply for the 2018/19 DYP Bursary, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Be currently attending Discovery School as a Grade 12 student
  • Be registered for full-time classes starting in an upcoming semester within 12 months of graduating from Discovery School at an accredited college or university
  • Be actively involved with a local or nationally recognized organization, including community organizations, social causes, places of worship, sports teams, and more

To apply for the 2018/19 DYP Bursary, students submit their application by completing the registration at Neal Estate Team's Discover Your Potential Bursary Registration (https://www.ronneal.com/bursary-program.php).

Students are required to submit a 400-word essay describing “who you are, the change you wish to see in the world, and what you are actively doing right now to move towards your vision”.

Premier Community Citizenship

Santas AnonymousRE/MAX is a front-runner in terms of giving back to the community, often devoting endless support to countless charities and local causes. The RE/MAX sponsorship of the Children's Miracle Network is a great example of RE/MAX community citizenship. Since 1992, RE/MAX has been a major contributor to the Children's Miracle Network; a North American fund-raising organization dedicated to generating funds and awareness programs for the benefit of Children served by its over 170 associated hospitals. RE/MAX across Canada raises over $3 million annually on behalf of 11 Canadian children's hospital foundations.

As well, RE/MAX of Western Canada created the "Quest for Excellence Program". This bursary program was established to recognize the success and on-going pursuits of Western Canadian students. A "Quest for Excellence" involves any student in Grade 12 who demonstrates great feeling and passion, commitment and dedication, positive attitude and enthusiasm for the subject chosen. RE/MAX presents 24 bursaries of $500 each regionally. The categories are Leadership, Sports, Technology and Trades, Fine Arts, Performing Arts and Community Service. RE/MAX is proud to recognize students, in the very communities in which we live and work, for their outstanding achievements. Education is the building block of our future and if the children we hear from every day are any indication, our future has never been brighter.

RE/MAX is committed to help raise awareness of the ongoing need for organ donation. GiveLife assists Canadians in making informed decisions regarding organ, tissue and bone marrow donation. The GiveLife site provides some national information regarding organ and tissue donation, but more importantly acts as a portal to the many provincial organizations that are mandated to oversee organ and tissue donation programs across the country.
